The first stop on foot is where the path meets a narrow suspension footbridge strung across a valley. A fenced lookout stands beside it, so you can see the whole span before you decide how to feel about it.
From the lookout the bridge is a thin line between two slopes, lighter than it has any right to look. Up close it is all cable and plank and rhythm.
I wrote this at the bridge end rather than the middle. The middle is for walking.
Notes for the road
- I looked at the whole span from the lookout before writing anything.
- The bridge made a sound in the wind that I never managed to write down.
- For next time: write one line on each side and compare them.
