Viewfinder keeps photographs made after dark in short series. Each series follows one thing that keeps appearing once the light goes: lit windows, snow, rain on glass, mist around a light.

A series begins when the same thing keeps turning up on different nights. Each caption says only what is in the picture.

Working after dark

• Go out once the windows are lit and the street has emptied.
• Let one light hold each picture together: a window, a lamp, a light behind a tree.
• Return to the same subject on other nights, in rain, snow and mist.
• Keep the dark parts dark; the edges of a picture can stay unresolved.
• Choose the frames that belong together, and let a series stay short.
